First Grade Flashback: Science Day

Soon we will have our Spring Science Day.  Students will go to five different classes located throughout the school about different science topics.  Volunteers from around the community are kind enough to spent the day teaching our awesome students!

Here are a few of the things we learned about in the Fall.

First, we got to learn what it means to be a Doctor from Jacob's mom!

Later, we experimented with bubbles with Mrs. Wintermute, a Second Grade Teacher.

During our last science class we were very excited to get to watch Duke students show us a variety of chemistry experiments.

All in all we had a great day and our excited for our next Science coming up at the end of March!

Short and Long Vowel sounds

Hi First Families,
Throughout the beginning of the year we have been working with short and long vowel sounds.
Here are some of our favorite vowel songs from a great website called www.havefunteaching.com!
Take a little time to learn and sing these with your kids.  Have them make lists using the short and long sounds, as well as practice spelling the words on their own and illustrating them!
Our class also loves to go for a sound hunt in books.  For example have them look for short a sounds like in cat and see how many they can find in one book.
Have fun with reading and they will too!

100th Day

We had a great 100th day of school together!

We started the day by searching the room for 100 strategically placed words we have been using throughout the year.

We built with 100 objects and

made necklaces with 100 pieces and

played math games on the activeboard
                                  and the computer!

We visited the other kindergarten classes and our friends from their classes joined us in our activities as well!

It was a busy and fun-filled day and we are ready to continue our amazing year together!
