Short and Long Vowel sounds

Hi First Families,
Throughout the beginning of the year we have been working with short and long vowel sounds.
Here are some of our favorite vowel songs from a great website called www.havefunteaching.com!
Take a little time to learn and sing these with your kids.  Have them make lists using the short and long sounds, as well as practice spelling the words on their own and illustrating them!
Our class also loves to go for a sound hunt in books.  For example have them look for short a sounds like in cat and see how many they can find in one book.
Have fun with reading and they will too!

100th Day

We had a great 100th day of school together!

We started the day by searching the room for 100 strategically placed words we have been using throughout the year.

We built with 100 objects and

made necklaces with 100 pieces and

played math games on the activeboard
                                  and the computer!

We visited the other kindergarten classes and our friends from their classes joined us in our activities as well!

It was a busy and fun-filled day and we are ready to continue our amazing year together!

Word Lists

Hi Families,

Recently you may have seen word lists sent home in book folders.  These are made for your individual student based on what they should work on.  Students should work with these lists in a variety of ways every night. One option is to use the website, www.spellingcity.com.  There are great games to engage kids with their sight words.

Other sight word ideas:
-make with magnetic letters or cut letters out of magazines
-cheer out the spelling of the words
-search for them in books
-make with playdough
-practice writing them in sentences
-Read!

We also use www.youtube.com videos as a modern version of flash cards in between activities.

The student ahs been doing a great job with their sight words so keep up the great work at home!
